2別のもの《◆しばしば one と相関的に用いる》‖for one reason or 〜 どういうわけか《◆for some reason or other ともいうが, ^×for some reason or another は不可》/I don't like this tie；show me 〜. このネクタイは気に入らない, 別のを見せてください/He came in one car, his wife and children in 〜. 彼と妻子は別々の車で来た.

[語法] (1)多くのもの[人]から任意に次々と選び出す場合, one, another [a second], another [a third], ...といい, 残りの1つ[1人]を the other, 2つ[2人]以上であれば the others という. (2)such との結びつきは such 〜 が普通で, 〜 such は古風(cf. 【形】3[語法](3)).
