[語法] (1)[be worrying, be worried, worry] 次の2例はほぼ同じ意味を伝える： I am worrying that he will be late. ＝I am worried that ... 彼が遅れるのではないかと私は心配している. この場合, that節の前では about は不可.また that節は元来は原因・理由を表す副詞節なのでこの worry は自動詞とされていたが, 今は他動詞と解せられその目的語の名詞節とみられる. (2)be worried by は普通の受身形であるから, 過去分詞の修飾は(very) much, greatly, (much) too, terribly などを用いる. be worried about ... の場合 worried は形容詞化しているので very で修飾可： I am very worried about what has happened to her. 彼女の身に何が起ったのかとても気がかりだ( →very 1c [語法]). 能動態の場合は, She worries (about her child) too much. 彼女は(子供のことを)心配しすぎる.
