【語法】 (1) 次のような構文では '〜 the＋単数名詞' は 'the only＋単数名詞' の意味となる: That humble little house was 〜 the home (that) I ever had. あの小さなあばら屋が後にも先にも自分のものとなつた唯一の住みかだった.　(2) 特に 《米》 では 〜 the [these, my] books, 〜 the [this, my] money よりも 〜 of the [these, my] books, 〜 of the [this, my] money のほうが好んで用いられる (cf. pron. 1).
