importance 人や物が大きな価値・勢力・影響を持っていること 《最も一般的な語》: a matter of great importance 非常に重要な問題.

consequence importance と同義であるが格式ばった語: With country people time is of no consequence. 田舎の人々にとっては時間は重要ではない.

moment [of 〜 の形式で] importance と同義であるが格式ばった語: a matter of great moment 非常に重大な事柄.

weight 問題になっている人や物の相対的な重要性 《格式ばった語》: His opinion carries weight in America. アメリカでは彼の意見は大いに重きをなす.

significance 大きな意味・重要性があること 《やや格式ばった語》: The movement has a national significance. その運動は国家的意義がある.

import ある事柄が人々や将来の事件に影響を及ぼすと考えられる点で重要なこと 《格式ばった語》: They fail to grasp the import of the scandal. そのスキャンダルの重大さがわかっていない.
