・sail toward the west 西へ向かって航行する.

・draw toward the trees 木立の方へ近づく.

・get toward… …に近づく (cf. GET to).

・go toward the town 町の方へ行く.

・turn toward home (踵(_くびす)をめぐらして)家路につく.

・I look toward you. 《戯言》 ご健康を祝します《乾杯の言葉》.

【語法】 (1) to と異なり, 目的点への到着は含意しない.　(2) 古くはしばしば(例えば聖書などで)この語を二分してその間に目的語を入れた (cf. tmesis): to us-ward＝toward us / to God-ward＝toward God.
