(4) 《米口語》 〔…を求めて〕…(の出方)を待つ, …に期待をかける 〔for〕; 〈人〉の…するのを待つ 〈to do〉.

・The people waited on the government for action during the energy crisis. 国民はエネルギー危機に当たって政府の方策を期待した.

・He waited on me to speak. 彼は私が話すのを待ち構えた.

(5) 《古》 (用事でまたは儀礼的に)〈長上者〉を訪問する, 敬意を表する, 伺候する (call upon, visit).
