a [制限的用法] (…する[した])ところの(場所, 点, 状況, 段階) (at, in which).

・the place where they live 彼らの住んでいる所.

・This is the house where he was born. ここが彼の生まれた家だ.

・the place (where) the treasure is buried 宝の埋めてある場所.

・The situation has reached a stage where we need mass intervention of the Federal government. 状況は連邦政府の大規模な介入を必要とする段階に達している.

★where の代りに関係副詞 that を用いたり, 《口語》 ではこれらの語を省くことがある. 先行詞が place の場合は省略が特に多い.

b [先行詞なく名詞節を導いて] …する場所[点].

・This is where I live. これが私の住んでいる所[住まい]です.

・That is where you are wrong. そこが君の間違っている点だ.

・I walked over to where she sat. 彼女の座っている所へ歩いて行った.
