げん-だい [1] 【現代】 （１）現在の時代。その人が生きている，今の時代。「―日本の諸問題」「―の若者たち」「―人」 （２）歴史の時代区分の一。世界史的には一般に，大衆社会の成立をみた一九世紀末以後，あるいは資本主義社会と社会主義社会の並立した第一次大戦後をさすが，日本史では，第二次大戦後をさすことが多い。
