・wish aid, money, etc.

・They say they wish peace. 彼らは平和を欲すると言う.

・I wish success to the enterprise. その事業の成功を祈る.

・Which do you wish? どちらを望みますか.

・I will do what you wish. お望みの事をしましょう.

・You may have whichever you wish. どれでも望みの物を取ってよろしい.

・At length the day so long wished came. ついに久しく待ち望んでいた日が来た.

★この用法では一般には wish for (⇒vi. 1) か, または口語的には want の方が普通.

b [to be wished の形で] 望ましい (desirable).

・It is to be wished that the dispute will soon be settled. 争議が早く解決してもらいたいものだ.
