4[not の繰り上げ] 従節に生じた not を主節に繰り上げても意味の違いが生じない場合, 主節を否定にするのが普通‖I think (that) she will 〜 come. → I do 〜 think she will come. 彼女は来ないと思う/He did 〜 anticipate that anyone would be against him. 彼はだれも自分には反対しないだろうと思った《◆(1)believe, expect, suppose, imagine, be likely などについても同じことがいえる. (2) hope, know などにこの繰り上げ規則が適用されないのは次のように意味の違いが生じるため： He knows (that) his son will 〜 come tomorrow. 彼は息子が明日来ないのを知っている. ≠ He does 〜 know that his son will come tomorrow. 彼は息子が明日来るのを知らない》.
