[語法] (1)複数名詞を修飾する時は women を用いる： three women reporters 3人の女性記者. lady の場合はそのまま. (2)lady の限定用法(a lady writer), 接尾辞 -ess (a poetess)などは軽蔑(べつ)的に響くこともあるので, 一般的に「女性の」を表すには woman が好まれる.

[語法]最近では「男」「女」を対照的にいう時, man and woman の固定表現を除き man / woman よりも a man / a woman, men / women が普通： the concept that women are equal to men 女性が男性と平等であるという考え / I was brought up to believe that a man should take care of a 〜. 男が女の面倒をみるべきだと信じるように私は育てられた.
